Attendees included Judge Damon Keith, one of America's first African American federal judges, actress Cicely Tyson, and officials representing Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and Detroit's Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Organic Style Ltd. (http://www.organicstyle.com/), which developed the project, will donate ten percent of on-line sales from this special variety of vibrant red roses to Detroit's Rosa & Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development (http://www.rosaparks.org/), which was co-founded by Rosa Parks and Ms. Elaine Eason Steele in 1987.

"Freedom(R), a rose in honor of Rosa Parks, expresses visually the admiration and love of people from around world for Mrs. Parks who changed the course of history," says Elaine Steele, Mrs. Parks' friend of forty-five years.

On December 1, 1955, Mrs. Parks' historic refusal to surrender her seat to a white male passenger, and her subsequent arrest on December 5, led to the 381-day bus boycott led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and to the 1956 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on buses was unconstitutional.

The Freedom(R) rose bouquet will retail for 9.95 (plus tax and shipping), and is available at http://www.organicstyle.com/, and from participating florists and retailers across the nation.

"Mrs. Parks was an extraordinary person who made the world a better place, and we are deeply honored to support her vision for equality and a just society," said Gerald Prolman, CEO of Organic Style.

Organic Style has earmarked an estimated ten million stems -- or about 835,000 dozen bunches -- of Freedom(R) roses in 2008, all of which will be certified sustainably grown by Veriflora(R) -- an international program that guarantees environmental protection, fair labor practices and flower quality.
